At just under 7ft long, this English pine dog kennel sideboard is quite unique in design. The term dog kennel relative to furniture was coined in the 18th century in Wales as a way to describe the central curve designed into sideboards of this period. The proper use of the center cubby was for displaying large confit pots or tureens. With the rising popularity of the dog kennel design, production continued into the late 1890's. At such point, it became common to see sewing machines in the central cubby. We find this particular piece to have a remarkably light finish with very minimal knots. Please note the small notch out that was done to the top many years ago to fit around mill work.
