Match Strike Apollinaris

Approximate Dimensions: 4.75" Diameter Base, 3.5" Tall

Made by British potters between 1910-1950, this vintage match strike has commemorative advertising on the base.  The inscription reads: "Apollinaris The Queen of Table Waters".   Staining and crazing present, no major chips or cracks. 

Apollinaris is a natural German mineral water brand that was discovered in 1852.  It rose to fame pre WWII in Europe and the UK, and is still produced today.  References to Apollinaris are seen throughout history from literature dating to the 19th C, the rival campaigns against Perrier, the film set of American Psycho, to cases brought onto the Titanic.
