Cornishware came about when Thomas Goodwin Green (T.G. Green) bought a small pottery in Church Gresley while on his honeymoon in 1862. Becoming wildly popular in the late 19th century, it wasn't until the 1920's and 30's that the iconic blue and white stripe design came to be and became the brand identity that we know today.
These highly collectible vintage Cornishware plates are the iconic "Blue of the Atlantic" and "White of the Cornish clouds" colors with the "Glisten of the Sea" glazing finish (A Cornish Ware leaflet, c.1938). Coupled with its glossy glaze and clean-cut finish by the turning process, it's no wonder Cornishware has had a lasting appeal for roughly 100 years.
