Dating to the late 18th- early 19th century, this French pine longcase clock has its original wavy glass. Clocks of this type originated in eastern France, in the Franche-Comte region. The body is two toned with the bottom being a darker wax color than the top. The choice of pine was deliberate as they were intended for farmhouses, and cottages, not aristocratic estates. They were intentionally left lightly waxed without any fussy finishes, allowing natural patina to show over time. The wear, knots, and irregular grain are what collectors prize them for today.
While almost all major components are present, please note this is a non functioning clock. Converting antique clocks to battery operated clocks is possible by working with a tradesman.
