Approximate Dimensions: 78" Long, 47.25" Wide, 31" Tall, 24.5" Height under Apron
A nicely sized 6.5ft x 4ft wide English pine table. The top is a light scrubbed pine while the body is ebonized in a rich deep black color. There is one deep drawer on the short side apron with original wooden knob hardware. While looking straight at the drawer, the left table leg has was the English call "a lick of. leather" added to the bottom of it. This is commonly done as a way to level tables in old cottages as shims simply won't do. We love the high contrast of the base against the top, as well as the exceptionally wide table surface.
More on Ebonized Furniture:
During the Victorian Era, it became quite popular for the working class to attempt to mimic the rich hues found in denser, premium woods such as mahogany, walnut, and ebony. Ebonizing refers to this technique in which lighter wood readily available to the working class (such as pine), is darkened to mimic the luster and depth found in furniture pieces of the elite and wealthy.
